PMW3901 is an ultra-light and multifunctional low-power optical flow module. This module integrates a high-precision low-power optical tracking sensor PMW3901 and a high-precision laser sensor VL53LXX (2m version uses VL53L0X, 4m version uses VL53L1X), PMW3901 Optical flow sensor is responsible for measuring horizontal movement, VL53LXX laser sensor is responsible for measuring distance. The 4m version of the optical flow module is an upgraded version of the 2m version of optical flow, with a longer measurement distance and stronger anti-interference ability. MiniFly can be used with the general module to achieve stable hovering (the remote control is set to fixed-point mode).

The module comes with 2×8 female headers, which are used to dock MiniFly’s 2×8 headers, but please note that the module has a direction. We need to install the module in the same way as the arrow of the module and the arrow of the four-axis head. The installation effect is shown in the figure.
Please note the following when using this module with MiniFly:
1) Please first upgrade MiniFly and remote control firmware to firmware V1.3 and above. After the upgrade is completed, the remote control is set to fixed-point mode;
2) The four-axis firmware 1.3 and above supports users to turn on/off the laser sensor function. Users can turn on/off the VL53LXX on the remote control terminal (the remote control firmware should be upgraded to V1.3 or above).
3) When collocated with this module, a laser sensor will be used for distance measurement. The distance measurement mode is long-distance mode, which can measure 2m/4m, but the long-distance measurement mode requires a dark environment without infrared light, under strong outdoor light. , The laser sensor will be greatly interfered, and the measurement accuracy will be drastically reduced. Therefore, it is recommended to use the air pressure to set the altitude for outdoor flight.
4) The distance measured by the laser is the distance between the measurement reference plane and the laser sensor. MiniFly is flying at a fixed point or at a fixed height and within the range of laser measurement. MiniFly will adjust its height in real time according to the laser measurement height, such as changing the reference plane of laser measurement. When an obstacle is placed under the module, MiniFly will automatically rise to the set height based on the new reference plane, but this is not recommended because it will also affect the optical flow data measurement.
5) The optical flow sensor needs certain lighting conditions (>60Lux), too low light will affect the fixed-point effect;
6) For firmware version 1.2 and above, the expansion module supports hot swapping, that is, after the four-axis is turned on, plug in the expansion module and you can use it directly without restarting the four-axis.
